One of the greatest challenges facing computer users is the barriers that are in place when they need to transfer PC files to a new computer. Although there are a variety of methods to accomplish this, some contain different benefits and capabilities. Finding that most users are unaware of the ways to transfer files from one computer to another, many different options have been created to facilitate the migration of information from one PC to another.

One of the first things to do when trying to Transfer Files from Vista to Windows 7 is to figure out what you want to transfer. It always helps to make a quick list of the items you want to transfer over to the new computer. You do not need to write every file name down just the type of files you are going to want to transfer over.A good example of this would be your documents like word and any pictures and music you may want? Most of these type of files will be located right under my documents on your user acount or if you are using vista and moving over to Widnows 7 then they will be under your user name.  Do you want to transfer over all your personal settings like user account info, bookmarks and favorites, wallpaper and any other custom setting you may have?  What about software profiles like your Outlook mail account.  Do you need to transfer over any software programs?

Your Computer to computer file transfer Options are going to depend on what type of answer you gave above.Curently there is no free option out there to transfer over most software programs for Windows.   As a rule of thumb you should always install the software you want to use first before doing the transfer.  This will help to ensure that the data you want to transfer over will import into the program correctly and that the software you are installing onto the system will work for your newer operating system.

For those that just want a few documents or pictures you do have several options. If you already have a network setup then you can simply copy and paste over what files you want to transfer.  If not then coping them onto a thumb drive or external driver is the next easiest option.
Purchasing an easy to use data transfer program is a great option for those that have trouble moving around computers.  for the money it will make your life that much easier.
