World of Warcraft – The Warlock Guide

This WoW warlock guide will illustrate the key advantages of choosing to play this character class. The warlock class focuses primarily on damage over time spells, shadow bolts, and conjuring demons. Casting dark spells of torment and suffering are a warlock’s stock in trade. Though warlocks are unable to stand toe to toe in up close fighting, they more than make up for that by casting high damage spells from a safe distance. Unique to the warlock class are soul shards, which are consumed by various spells and must be acquired from defeated mobs. Warlocks are possibly the fastest class to level with especially when soloing. In a group, warlocks are frequently the biggest DPS dealers.

The warlock class is an option that is available only to the Undead, Orc, Human, Gnome, and Blood Elf races. Since warlocks are a caster class, they’re only allowed to wear cloth armor. As for weapons, they’re restricted to daggers, staves, swords and wands.

Probably the coolest ability of a warlock is demon summoning (including the Imp, Voidwalker, Succubus, Felhunter, Infernal, Doomguard, and Felguard). Each of the various minions are valuable, but you’ll have to measure the advantages of each of them based on the task at hand. Whether it be DoT’s (damage over time), DD (direct damage), or summoning, the warlock is able to cast a broad range of spells. They’re able to use soul shards to conjure a variety of items and also to perform resurrection on other players. Other abilities include self healing via drain life, and CC (crowd control with fear. One of the overlooked benefits that warlocks have is that they don’t need to spend nearly as much as other classes to acquire mounts (Felsteed and Dreadsteed).

The Affliction talent specialization is designed for bolstering curses, damage over time spells, and drains. This spec is good for boss fights, raiding, and farming. This is commonly accepted as being the optimum leveling spec for the warlock class.

Demonology talents are focused on summoning more lethal demon minions and enhancing your conjuration spells. The Demonology specialization is really useful for PvP and general survivability. It is also good for leveling, though it isn’t nearly as efficient as the Affliction tree. When you want to build the most effective demons, Demonology is the spec you want.

The Destruction talent tree uses talents that amplify the power of the warlock’s shadow and fire spells, which are mostly direct damage (DD) spells used to quickly eliminate one mob. This specialization isn’t as effective as the others during lower levels. It requires lots of soul shards, isn’t mana efficient, and is hard to use effectively for those who wish to play by themselves.
